Being alone in a foreign country was a bit scary at first, but being the only English-speaker forced me to learn German and also learn the German culture, for which I am now incredibly grateful. I got to know many Germans which wouldn’t have happened if I had been surrounded by other Americans. I’m truly grateful that I got the chance to go to Germany and experience the world outside of my own.”
