As a student at Princeton University, you have the opportunity
to participate in your school's summer internship program
in Germany. This two to three-month program (June-August)
is administered by CDS International, Inc. While the program
coodinator at your university places you in an internship
with a host company, CDS takes care of the work authorization,
offers optional insurance coverage, provides pre-departure
information, and-- through our German partner organization--
offers an orientation seminar upon arrival in Cologne. Our German partner organization, InWEnt
gGmbH offers a two-day orientation seminar upon arrival
in Cologne. While participation is not madatory, it is highly
recommended, especially for students visiting Germany for
the first time. Bureaucratic issues will be discussed as well
as intercultural challenges. |

Application![]() In addition to what your school's program requires you to submit, CDS needs the following items:
These materials are required in order to process your work authorization for Germany. U.S. citizens do not need a visa for Germany. The work authorization type for students completing up to three months of internship in Germany is called Freistellung von der Arbeitserlaubnis (excemption from work permit). This work authorization will enable you to live and work in Germany for the time of your internship. Non-U.S. and non-EU citizens will most likely need a visa.
Contact the German consulate (www.germany-info.org)
to inquire about visa regulations. Make sure that you ask
for a visa for an internship for up to three months, based
on a Freistellung von der Arbeitserlaubnis and usually, the
visa will be issued within a few days. Please note that any
stay above a duration of 90 days will require a different
visa type with a processing time of up to three months! Make
sure to inquire early to avoid unpleasant situations. |
