This summer program (May – August) provides students at the College of Charleston with internship opportunities in Germany. This program begins in mid-May with a one-month language course in Berlin and is followed by a two-month internship in your field. Paid placements are available in business/finance, production, general administration, hotel management/tourism, computer science, engineering and a variety of other fields. Internships for liberal arts majors are also available, but are likely to be unpaid (museums, non-profits, media, etc.).

Responsibilities of Participant:

  • submit an online application by December 1, 2008. All paper applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2008. Further information on the program and the application process can be found in the Program Overview.
  • pay $ 3,350 program fee (includes the 4-week language course in Berlin)
  • pay for your flight to and from Germany, plus any additional transportation costs within Germany
  • secure housing in Germany (with our assistance)
  • represent your home country in a responsible way
  • non-US citizens have to take care of any visa required by the German Government. Visa processing takes time! Contact your German consulate in March and ask specifically about visa requirements for an internship with an exemption from the work permit (Freistellung von der Arbeitserlaubnis).
Responsibilities of CDS and German Partner Organization:

  • pre-departure information
  • arrangement of tickets to and from Germany (optional)
  • enrollment in a language course in Berlin (including accommodation with a host family or in a student dorm)
  • enrollment in health insurance (optional)
  • internship placement with a German host company, paid or unpaid as discussed with you
  • work authorization and assistance with other bureaucratic matters
  • support throughout the program in Germany and in the US

The total fee for this program is $3,350 (includes the 4-week language course in Berlin). A check made out to the College of Charleston in the amount of $550 must be submitted with your application. The remaining fee of $2,800 is due by March 9, 2009. Credit card payments are also accepted.
