The Bavarian American Center (BAC) offers one professional internship to a United States or Canadian graduate student pursuing a career in public administration or international relations. The program is designed to give firsthand insight into the German political system and Bavarian political institutions and processes in particular. It also is intended to involve students in project work relating to their specialized field of study in any of the nine Bavarian State Ministries or the Bavarian State Chancellery. The program attempts to match specific fields of interest indicated by the applicants (e.g. refugee counseling, environmental protection, internal security) with the internship positions available at the Ministries.
The BAC hopes to further mutual knowledge and understanding of politics and culture in the respective countries, exposing young "decision- makers-to-be" to the daily process of public administration.

One of the possible placement options is with the Bavarian State Chancellery, which offers an internship position to a graduate student of law or political sciences, to conduct an independent comparison of the electoral systems and the ideas of federalism in the USA and Bavaria
