FELLOWSHIPS ABROAD
TRANSATLANTIC RENEWABLE ENERGY FELLOWSHIP
Program Overview
The Transatlantic Renewable Energy Fellowship (TREF) is a unique opportunity for students and young professionals with experience in environmental and energy fields to gain three to six months of work experience in Germany. In conjunction with the Transatlantic Climate Bridge, this prestigious fellowship is designed to build an international network of future leaders in renewable energy and environmental fields as well as to increase transatlantic cooperation on climate and energy issues.
As part of the Transatlantic Climate Bridge, fellows will receive international on-the-job training in an array of renewable energy fields while learning about policies, technologies, and strategies in both Germany and the United States. Internships are customized to each fellow’s area of expertise and will be with renewable energy providers, manufacturers, consultants, and trade associations.
Program Highlights
CDS and InWEnt offer the following services for this fellowship:
- 3-6 month internship
- Seminar series
- Financial support including:
- Monthly stipend of EUR 1,100 (for 3 months)
- International travel allowance up to EUR 500
- Allowance for travel within Germany up to EUR 200
- Health and accident insurance
- Coverage of seminar costs
- Work authorization and assistance with legal matters
- Support throughout the program in the U.S. and Germany
Itinerary for the 2009 Transatlantic Renewable Energy Fellowship Program
- Five-day introductory seminar in Germany
- Three to six month internship with a German host company in renewable energy-related fields (September 5 - December 19, 2009, or September 5, 2009 - March 19, 2010)
- Two-day evaluation seminar in Germany
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the 2009-2010 program year was June 24, 2009. Late applications will not be accepted.
TREF is an initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office. The program is administered in Germany by InWEnt gGmbH in partnership with CDS International.
