| In her words:
“From my year abroad with CBYX, I have gained independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
I've accomplished so much on various levels. Through all this experience of the past
year, it's hard to believe that I'm the one actually doing all of it: traveling the country, being the
only exchange student in my school, battling homesickness, loneliness, and more. Completing this year in Germany has been the best thing that I have ever done. I am proud of what I've accomplished and who I've become.” | |

Nathan Hopkins College: New York University (New York, NY) and University of Maryland (Baltimore, MD) University with CBYX: Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg Internship with CBYX: International Solar Energy Society e.V. and Petite Planète (Freiburg) | ![]() |
| In his words:
“I am currently in law school, where my focus is sustainability law. This program has allowed me to study in-depth Germany’s policies and use the German experience as a lens to understand other countries’ renewable energy policies, including the United States. I now know how I will shape the remainder of my legal education. This experience has opened the door to the rest of the world. While reading about the world and its people is important, and traveling for any length of time can be worthwhile, living in a country for an extended amount of time provides a perspective that can not be acquired any other way.” Read the feature article on Nathan in his local newspaper! |

Marcell Johnson College: Sonoma State University (Rohnert Park, CA) University with CBYX: Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (Munich) Internship with CBYX: PUMA AG Rudolph Dassler Sport (Herzogenaurach) | ![]() |
| In his words:
“I have come to the point to where I can honestly say that I have gotten used to the German way of life. There are things that you do here that you simply cannot do in the US. I learned how to live in a way that in my world back home does not exist and I learned a language and how to use it in a way that also does not exist back home. I learned to understand myself, others, and the things that people do and why in ways I never saw before. Since the beginning of my internship with PUMA AG, I have been faced with so many challenging situations, privately and professionally, I feel as though I could knock out or take on any challenge thrown my way. I guess that’s what this program is all about in a sense…” |

| In his words:
"Considering I had never been abroad anywhere before, I certainly have a new and much broader perspective of the world, and even myself. From living in Germany, I have without a doubt become more environmentally aware. Along with that, I gained a much deeper interest in and knowledge of politics. As an engineer, I never really bothered myself more than I had to with politics. I am now aware of how important it is to be politically involved. My experience with my host family has been excellent. They have certainly taken me in as one of their own kids. Spending the holiday with the host family gave me a much better chance to experience the German culture and become integrated into the German lifestyle." |
